Storybook mini house...done MY WAY.

Jumping in feet first at my attempt to make a sweet little cottage dollhouse.

I'm so smitten with Caroline's of *Shop Cinderella Moments*  http://shopcinderellamoments.blogspot.com beautiful little houses, that I have to give my hand a try at making one.

Ordered, StoryBook from Greenleaf, stalking the postman each day waiting for it to arrive...finally it's here.

Now comes the fun part, or so I thought....NOT.

Putting it together is proving to not be my cup of tea.

I  did not realize the size of the little thing...way bigger than I wanted.
Wasn't paying one bit of attention to the dimension when I ordered it.
Oh silly me.

After attempting to *make it work*... and it wasn't, I changed my whole plan.

Decided to make my own floor plan...with dremel saw in hand, I've modified the little sucker.
It's an on going design plan...in other words, I don't have a clue how or what it will turn out like, but.... so far I'm loving it.

My appreciation for building little houses has risen one thousand percent.
As long as I can do it 'my' way, all is good!

Much better.
Happy Dance!

Doesn't look like much now....gotta be patient, it's going to be wonderful, she says with such hopefulness.

The outside has been successfully cemented!
Who knows what twists and turns it will take....only time will tell.

I have faith... stay with me....this is a work in progress.
So exciting...at least I'm excited.

xoso
Sandy

  1. Sandy, girl you crack me up! The cottage looks promising :) I too have been smitten with Carolines work, and have decided to make a dream come true with a little fairy cottage built from scratch. I will follow your process and cheer you on ;)

    1. Good luck on the 'scratch' avenue. Actually that might be easier than all these darn pieces that you punch out. I'm happy that I DO have those pieces, as long, as I said "I can do it my way". Once I figured that out, it all started to roll in the direction I anticipated in the first place. Thanks for the cheers...they're needed.

  3. Fun! I'm so inspired by Caroline's work too! Here's her link, for those who haven't seen it: http://shopcinderellamoments.blogspot.com/ I ALSO bought the Storybook Cottage kit, but I haven't started it yet. Mine is called Cupcake Cottage, and I've acquired pretty much what I need for the inside LOL! :-) I'll be interested to watch your progress. If you learn something along the way, I'd love to know about it! ;-) Jennifer

    1. Thanks Jennifer for posting Carolines link...I should have done that too...but, I did it now...so, it's out there for all to see. Cuteness...Cupcake Cottage...love it. Wonder what mine will end up being named? "Harder than it looks"... Oh that sounds good. Na, it's easy ONCE you do it YOUR way. lol I'll be sure and post all my trials and tribulations.
I say you should start it now...come on, lets make mistakes together. LOL
      Have a great day.

I do love to chop those little babies up myself!! And I love how you cut yours up. I might have to chop one the same way. Who knows. I just love the cuteness of it now. Precious!! It looks so cozy.

    1. Caroline... You are the best so of course we have to put you "out there"!!
Let's see what today brings... hoping a roof.
Hit the dollar store for some of those pot lining inserts, hope they do the trick and LOOK like I think it will. Are they what you used?
Spent yesterday in Carmel getting my hair done...while there I perused a few of the cottages for ideas... It doesn't get better than that for ideas. Have a great day...

  6. Hello Sany,
Your posts are always so much fun. I'm glad you didn't let the kit get the better of you. I can't wait to see what you'll do to it and love your "whatever will be will be" approach. Keep up the great work,
    Big mini hug,

    1. Vicky.... Thanks for the stop....AND...such sweet words. Always enjoy having you visit. It's coming right along, think I'll post more pics later today. Painted the outside, stucco'd the inside. I don't have a clue what order to go in, or what I'm going to make, just doing what I think should come next. Don't read directions! Maybe that's my problem. lol Back to work. xoso Sandy
